Speaker Series: Ryan Eustice to discuss the Next Generation Vehicle Project
Sponsor: UMTRI 50th Anniversary Seminar Series
Professor Ryan Eusticee is an Associate Professor in the Department of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering at the University of Michigan. Additionally he holds joint appointments in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, and the Department of Mechanical Engineering. He is also the Director of the Perceptual Robotics Laboratory (PeRL), a mobile robotics laboratory focused on algorithm development in the areas of robotics perception, navigation, and mapping.
In this seminar, Professor Eustice will give an overview of the on-going work (in collaboration with Ford Motor Company) in full-scale automated driving. We'll look at high definition map building and precision localization, including the recent work in cross-modality localization using vision within a priori LIDAR map and Gaussian mixture maps for incorporating 3D structure. Professor Eustice will also review the project's work in multi-policy decision-making in dynamic environments and discuss some critical technical challenges in automated driving.
