Our current data rich environment provides unprecedented opportunities as well as research challenges in decision making for complex products design and systems operation. Data fusion, through the integration of various advanced data analytics techniques for decision making represents one of the frontiers in the industrial engineering research. This talk will firstly introduce the basic concepts of data fusion research with the emphasis placed on promoting the integration of disparate methodologies, such as advanced statistics, machine learning, computer simulations, optimization etc., into a cohesive entity to enable effective decision-making. Specific examples will be followed to discuss the new data analytics methodology development for multistream functional data analysis to enhance vehicle ergonomic design and driving safety.
Judy Jin is a Professor in the Department of Industrial and Operations Engineering at the University of Michigan. She is also the Director of Manufacturing Program in the Integrative Systems and Design Division. Dr. Jin’s research focuses on data fusion and system informatics for system innovation and quality improvement. Her research has been broadly applied in both manufacturing and service industries such as automotive, metal forming, solar cell manufacturing, medical clinical decision support, and transportation systems. Her major awards include the NSF CAREER and PECASE Awards, the Forging Achievement Awards from the Forging Industry Educational and Research Foundation (FIERF), and ten Best Paper Awards from referred journals and conferences since 2005. She is an active member of professional societies, served as a Vice President of The Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences (INFORMS) and the President of Quality Control & Reliability Engineering (QCRE) Division of Institute of Industrial Engineers (IIE). She is a departmental editor for IIE Transactions and an editorial advisory board member of Journal of Industrial and Production Engineering, was also an associate editor for Technometrics and Journal of Quality Technology. She is a Fellow of Institute of Industrial Engineers (IIE), a Fellow of American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), an elected senior member of International Statistical Institute (ISI), a senior member of ASQ, and a member of IEEE, INFORMS, and SME
